Tips and Tricks for Newbies!
Tales of Pirates' an easy enough game to understand and play and honestly, not one person, still playing the game until today's a real newbie. I mean come on, we're all here for the nostalgia, we might've forgotten how to play the game, but all's still in there!
MaPKO's a little bit different from the original Tales of Pirates we knew, but ah, well, ToP's ToP nuff said!
We already have a bunch of newbie guides for MaPKO, you can check them all out here, here too, and over here as well.
This MaPKO FAQ/guide here's mainly for MaPKO's unique features, the minor stuff, little details often overlooked, but could help starting out in MaPKO a breeze.
Let's ROLL!
1. LOG IN
Logging in game's pretty basic. Like any other game, click the desktop shortcut, and after the Launcher/Updater kicked in, you click log-in and the log-in panel pops up. You type in account name, password, hit enter game and you're in.
To save CPU resources you close the Launcher and log-in panel, but then, suddenly, in-game, you needed another character; maybe to store some things, help yourself in a quest, or maybe just an extra hand to help farm resources. In most servers, you just click the shortcut again and log-in, so you do just that. In MaPKO, you do that and your opened client will glitch, and you won't be able to see anything but shadows of things. How annoying!
To avoid this from happening, you have to use one of MaPKO's features, the Log-in Panel.
Using the log-in panel, you can actually save many accounts and their passwords, and log them all one by one.
You just type in account and password, then click save first, and you can log in a bit later.
Even if that graphic glitch doesn't occur, this feature really makes things a lot easier.
Note: if you let another person log your account on another device, that account information saved on your log-in panel will become invalid and you will need to delete it and re-enter.
2. NEWBIE QUEST
Alright, now in game, walking around without pants on. In ToP and the countless ToP/PKO private servers that followed, we're used to finding a mentor to assist us, get some information, or mainly to help us level up and if lucky, score some start-up money or equipments.
In MaPKO, we can do solo right up the starting line through MaPKO's own Story Quest, the Newbie Catch-Up Quest.
It's a series of quest designed to make the newbie familiarize himself with the game's unique features (yes, do read the pop-up prompts), and somehow "catch-up" to a certain degree to PRO-dom.
Check out this great guide on the story quest by MALLOWS
Quest 1, upon completion, gives insta-max level, then teleports you to heaven (Hafta Haven) for your insta-RB 1 to 3. Continuing further with the quest will gain you some starter equipments, items to increase stats/Battlepower (again, read the prompts as they discuss these items you gain), and later on, gemmed equipments and some more advancement stuff.
Notes:
It is advisable to finish up until quest 7 at once as it is required to enable 4th RB.
Don't take any other quest. Doing so might bug quests and you won't be able to complete them.
In 2022, story quest is up to quest 10, and you need to complete it all to be able to do a certain daily quest which is very helpful in maxing out your character.
3. COMMANDS
Yea, we do almost everything here using commands. You just type them on the local chat box, press enter and there you go! Check out the list for these commands using /cmds.
As a newbie doing the story quest, the most important commands in your arsenal are:
/buff = instantly gives you full buffs for a duration of 5 minutes.
/heal = instantly restores your hp and mp
/bank = opens up your bank wherever you may be
/binfo = offers up information on bosses you need to hunt for the story quest
/skpi = gives all skills and resets stats; use at once after 3rd RB
/rhome = returns you to Argent
/rdi = teleports you in dream isle where the farming maps are located
/gogw = teleports you to the guild npc and guild war portal at Thundoria Castle
/mfgo = teleports you inside Newbie Farm Isle where the meteorites for AFK farming are located.
/reforge do = put gemmed equips on 3rd, new equips on the 4th slot of your inventory and execute this command to transfer gems as you progress. We sometimes also use this just to make sockets on new equips then transfer gem back. You'd need gold pouches to execute this command.
/gems = yes, we do get fully gemmed equips in SQ, but in-case you need to change build or something, we use this command to get gems. You need gem vouchers to get the gems. This command gives level 8 and level 9 gems with ref gems, there's no need to look for gem levels 1-7 though, just forge the level 8s and the next level will be forged forged.
4. APPAREL NPC
We don't just get cheap, almost-free apparels from these NPCs, they actually serve a more important purpose.
Fusion scrolls, Fusion Catalysts, Strengthening Scrolls, and Strengthening Crystals from Original ToP/PKO, we don't use them here.
Apparel Fusion
To fuse apparels, put equipment on the 3rd slot and the apparel on the 4th slot of your inventory and click the option Instant Apparel Fusion on the NPC.
Not only instantly fused, your equipments gets automatically strengthened here, to not only the usual 110% effectiveness but 130% effectiveness for VIP 1s, and 140% effectiveness for VIP 2s.
Apparel Fission
Sometimes, equipment stats gets bugged after being fused in apparel, or you got more awesome apparels to use, you'd need to unfuse your equipments to either fix them or fuse them anew.
To unfuse fused apparels from equipments, we use the Apparel Fission function.
Simply put fused equipment on the 4th slot of your inventory and click the Apparel fission option on the NPC.
Note:
You need gold pouches to be able to use these functions.
You need not worry about gemmed equipments here, you won't lose them doing either function.
You cannot fuse an equipment if you have two of the same equipment on your inventory. You would have to either wear one, or store in bank first before proceeding .
VIP 2 is simply a more than 15-days duration of VIP. You can either purchase them at the VIP Vending Machine NPC located in Argent 2190,2760, or at the Money Manager NPC in Argent 2220, 2770.
Purchase 2x VIP 14 days and use both to stack them and you'd get VIP 2.
5. EQUIPMENT & ITEMS
MaPKO equipments, weapons, and items are dividedly ranked into tiers, in which the latter tiers are more superior than the former tiers.
They are ranked as such:
SR<SSR<MSR<LMR<GMR
Some equipments and weapons might not currently show any noticeable stat improvements when compared. You'll see the difference in their BP bonuses.
Some items stack upto 25,000 in your inventory.
Some command functions fail to execute when you have more than 25,000 of the same item required in your inventory. Better keep the excess in your bank first.
Killing mobs, and bosses, completing quests, and winning maps oftentimes, gives you drops that seems trash and useless.
These items are actually exchanged for different items needed for your character's progress, equipments, weapons and apparels on different item exchangers throughout the game. Better check them all out.
6. MAPS
In order to ensure fair play, most of the maps have certain limitations in place, and it'd be better to know them beforehand.
Some maps have IP and device restrictions in them. You can't put 2 of your own characters on the same map. Once a character entered a map, it's automatically registered, and you'd have to use only that character for the rest of the day.
Some maps have anti-afk / anti-bot restrictions in place. If you stay still for extended periods of time, you might get booted out of the place. There will be a system warning before you get ejected off the map, so better pay attention. Maps have varying time length in regards with this restriction. Using skills doesn't cancel out this restriction, you would need to move to another spot from time to time to be safe.
7. EXCHANGE & QUEST NPCs
As mentioned above, MaPKO have all sorts of NPCs that you need to exchange stuff you collect from mobs, quests, pk, etc.
There also NPCs that gives out specific quests. Some do both.
While we have lots of NPCs around, the following are to be noted specially after starting out:
Newbie Catch-up NPC
One of many the NPCs surrounding Argent Fountain. Your first few hours (or days) of play will revolve around this NPC.
After you have finished the entire Story Quest (Newbie Catch-Up Quest's currently up to the 10th), there's a new daily quest you can obtain. Better keep checking this NPC out even after becoming PRO.
MaPKO Equipment NPC
Contains basic equipments you need early on. This is also where you'd be able to purchase your 3rd Class Advancement weapons.
This NPC requires Pirate Banners to purchase it's items. Pirate Banners, on the early stages can be farmed mainly from Thundoria Boss (Lord BD), Glacier Isle Boss (Nightmare), Zephyr Isle Boss (Pirate Captain), and by doing the FC Quest (check out this guide).
Grocery - Jimberry
In OG ToP, this is where we purchase crusader and voyager skill books as well as some basic life-skill books. In MaPKO, as we acquire skills automatically through commands, this NPC serves quite a different purpose.
Well, you still need to purchase life-skill books here, but now it also gives out Life-Skill points for you to be able to use the books.
This is also where you exchange your money into notes as some exchangers and quests requires notes.
This NPC also contains DW and FC quests. There's 2 of this NPC, one's on it's usual location in Argent, and the other one's near DW and FC ports in Dream Isle.
Potion Gina
MaPKO allows the use of some very basic manus and pots, and you can purchase them all in this NPC.
This NPC also now gives us a few daily quests we can work on.
There's also 2 of this NPC, one's located near Argent Fountain, and the other one's beside KYJJ port in Dream Isle.
Money Manager NPC
One of the most important NPC in MaPKO from the newbie stage until the advance stages.
This is where you instantly exchange money notes to a higher or lower denomination. This is also where you exchange Gold Pouches for money (better save some Gold Pouches and not convert all, as they are required for lots of processes)
Many things offered amongst other NPCs are now being offered here too, for money of course. This NPC also offers some advanced items exclusively purchasable by money. Better regularly check this NPC out.
Event NPC
The Event NPC changes with the season or any popular international holiday, as well as the items in the exchangers.
Lets name these items based on their order on the NPC dialogue.
This NPC contains some of the most important exchangers in game, and a few PVP based quests. Be advised not to take these quests yet until you're clear of the Newbie Catch-Up Quests (or any other quest) as some of them might be containing the same requirements and might end up bugging your other quests (also, they will be quite difficult to complete).
Supreme Master NPC
Entering the advanced stages means gearing up for it and this NPC provides the exchangers for these Next Level gears.
Dungeon Master NPC
Loots from the Secret Dungeon Hell Chapter all goes to this NPC which contains mostly advanced stuff, including the currently, best set in the game.
This NPC also gives out quests you can complete inside the dungeon. Check out this guide for more info about the map.
VIP Vending Machine NPC
While everything's pretty much obtainable in-game, we can't really keep the server running without our beloved donators.
With that in mind, MaPKO offers up this NPC to our donators for in-game purchases.
Help the server grow and improve, help keep the server running, donate now!
For infos about donation, check this guide out, and this one too.
8. CLASS ADVANCEMENT
Completing the 1st quest of the Newbie Catch-Up Quest gets you insta-RB 1 to 3, so, there's actually no need to go through 1st and 2nd Class Advancement like in OG ToP/PKO.
After 4th Rebirth though, you'd get to try out the unique MaPKO 3rd Class Advancement.
These new classes also comes with new skills, new strengths, and new weapons. Try them all out!
For more info on these new classes, check out this link, and this guide too.
That's all for now!
The server's still improving, and many more features will be added soon.
